XLPASS is a program designed to recover passwords which lock Microsoft® Excel files. When Excel locks a file it actually saves the file in a scrambled format, making it impossible for anyone to decipher the file without the password.
XLPASS uses a process known as block frequency analysis to unlock Excel files. When recovering the password, XLPASS reads in a portion of the Microsoft® Excel file and uses mathematical models of the file format structure as a guide for its analysis.
